Currently more than 7 billion people live on earth and still many suffer from health problems even with the current vast scientific developments. Poverty, discrimination, lack of access to health facilities and mortality especially that of mothers and young children under 5 are all among problems which healthcare organizations in the world face today. Over 6 million children die in the world annually due to preventable conditions. More than one third of the world’s population live on less than two dollars per day. To address such problems and find solutions for health challenges, universities all over the world have started to open Departments of Global Health, where nterdisciplinary courses such as International Health, Global Health and Health Diplomacy are taught to the students. Therefore, the School of Public Health at Tehran University of Medical Sciences established the Global Health and Public Policy department in 2013 to achieve this goal and to develop education and research activities in the field of public health for the society and according to universal standards.
