Department of Occupational Health Engineering (DOHE) started its activities in 1969 with training M.Sc. students in occupational health and industrial safety. With expansion of society’s needs and increasing the number and variety of air pollutions in occupational and industrial settings, DOHE also expanded its activities.
DOHE is training undergraduate, M.Sc., and Ph.D. students, so that many faculty members of departments which are affiliated to Ministry of Health and Medical Education as well Ministry of Science, Research and Technology have been graduated from DOHE.
Participation in maintenance and promotion of workforce’s health at national level, and expanding the occupational health knowledge at regional and international levels through educational, research and service activities are the main goals of DOHE.
With regard to the potential capacity of TUMS, and SPH, our specialized faculty members, enabled expert teams, appropriate facilities and equipment of DOHE, our main strategies are training specialized human resources, conducting applied research and providing need-based services are.
Our main strategies are healthy work environment, improving efficiency and helping to achieve social welfare. In order to achieve them, the following issues are our main codes:
1) Improving inter-sectoral, intra-sectoral collaborations and international relationships
2) Revising the curriculum
3) Continuous improvement of education quality
4) Quantitative and qualitative increase of need-based research
5) Appropriate and targeted relationship with stakeholders
6) Establishing research institutes and scientific journals
7) Training human resources
8) Participation in transforming the structure of providing occupation health services
9) Quantitative and qualitative improvement of post-graduation programs, particularly Ph.D., with emphasize on using internal capabilities
10) Active participation in developing national public health, safety, and environmental health standards.
